How do I access the ftp server on a windows vista, service pack 1?

I want to use my laptop to edit a company website. I have the admin screen name and password, but I am scared if I enable ftp on my laptop that the files will be shared with EVERYONE. I just want to enable ftp, edit the website (I have codelobster) and then publish the site.

I am just scared security- wise.

Anyone know what to do?

    Hello,

Do you have the web server’s (of the company’s website) FTP username and password? Because that is what you will need to FTP. As long as you don’t save the FTP username and password in your FTP program on your laptop, no one else (who doesn’t know the FTP username and password) will have access, just because they have access to your laptop. I hope this helps.

If you are behind a router, no one can ftp to your computer unless you forward the FTP ports to your computer. So, in general, you can ftp out, but no one can ftp in unless you specifically set it up to do so.
You probably don’t have a ftp server anyway, just a ftp client, so don’t worry about it.
Ftp is the most common way of updating web sites, most people use that with no issues…
