Loading ...I need to find the perfect server?
Hi, i need to know the best free server operatiing system to use. I use my server on a small LAN, about 10 computers, and i need it to do mail, webmail, calendar share, virtual network drives, remote administration, and ftp, it currently has windows xp pro on it, because i don’t know what to use. If there are separate programs i would have to use to get the above (like a mailserver for linux, or whatever) please write all of the programs i would have to use. thanx

Linux, Solaris or BSD should all work just fine. Is up to you.

I have to do something similar to this over the weekend. I have decided to go with Ubuntu as it my favorite flavor of linux…
Ubuntu has a synaptic package manager that makes it quite easy to set up all of the things you have mentioned. They also provide great support on their forums..
hope that helps… During install, you can select “server” and ubuntu will install most of your server stuff by default. It is easy either way.

Dell has very good servers. For a small business you can get Poweredge 1800 with Small Business Server installed.
