I’m not sure I completely understand your question…but…at work I have to transfer lots of graphics files to our printer, and even though I’ve made them perfect into PDFs they still get corrupted by the transfer. The printer suggested that I zip them. Even though it doesn’t save very much on file size, evidently zipping the files makes them not get corrupted during transfer. I hope that helps.

FTP is File Transfer protocol, it will not compress your data. Anyway Most sites now use HTTP instead
