Why am I not able to connect to file sharing programs? I was able to connect before.?
I am also not able to use FTP programs to upload files. I am wondering if they are related. I have windows XP and cable connection. Can anyone please help?

If it is not a firewall and if you have a router ( Then I suggest you look into port forwarding ) If that is not the case then I suggest you look into using this utility :
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html
That should solve or at least aleaviate some of the issues
Short of that I would suggest into using hijackthis :
http://www.hijackthis.de
ewido
http://www.ewido.net
and some anti spyware scanners like microsofts antispyware beta, adaware personal se and spy sweeper ( http://www.webroot.com )
I would also suggest you get an antivirus as that will come in handy :
http://www.clamwin.com is the one I suggest since it is open source and free and really good, that or avg free edition which can be found at http://www.grisoft.com
Hope this helps

This is such a nebulous description and such a large problem to diagnose that I doubt I’ll be able to help, but I’ll give you some ideas.
Obviously you can connect to the internet, so it’s not a computer — ISP issue. In other words, your connection is alive.
So I’m guessing this p2p proggy you mentioned is something new? Old? How many times have you used it?
Could it your firewall has blocked it for some reason?
Have you logged out of both? Could it be that your connection was severed and it still thinks you’re logged in? So it won’t recognize you trying to log in when it thinks you’re already there.
To make this easier, have you tried closing all the programs running and the shutting down the computer and rebooting?
That usually clears up a lot of problems.
Maybe the programs got corrupted. You may have to uninstall them and reinstall them again. If you do this, do one first, and see if it works. If so, then try the other one.
You can try to ping these sites and see if maybe the problem is on their end.
I don’t really want to type out how to do all this…..it would take a bit to describe it properly, so I’m cheating and giving you the website below:
Type in the URL (this is the http://www.whatever.com) address of the website you’re interested in, into the little window called “host name” at the top of the page of that website. Don’t worry about the selections on it, just use the default values that are there, and hit “ping”.
Look in the results where it says “Loss”. This should be zero, or darn near it. Anything else means the site is unavailable for whatever reason.
Could be too high volume (server-demand) or maybe they are doing maintenance on the site for some reason.
At least this will tell you if it’s them, or you.
Hope this helps…………good luck.
