Are there any disadvantages? Explain answer!

We both have fast internet connections but live far away. Is there a way to get a direct connection to him that is not like MSN, Yahoo Messenger, and Skype that have transfer speeds that are much slower than our internet connections? Is FTP the answer? Any help is greatly appreciated!

ok the reason why im asking this is because i can access my ftp server fine but other people say that it just gives them an error message saying to make sure they have permission to access the folder. (maybe its them i dont know because theyre not very computer literate) If you know the answer to this question then please tell me the answer. Also if you want to try to connect to the server yourself then the address is ftp://24.207.36.53 and the username and password is test.(both username and password is test)
