I have a Solaris 9 server which has ftp installed as binary not the default ascci, how do I switch it?

I want to switch the default setting. Not just declare the type as ascci in all of my scripts. I have two servers the fail over is set to the default ftp setting of ascci not binary. I do not want a ftp conflict upon failover. Reloading the OS is not an option.

Could someone help with with a FTP question?

When you upload files to a site (WS_FTP) there is an option for ASCII or BINARY. Which option should I choose. I remember somone saying that if you transfer some type using the incorrect one it could corrupt it?

Any thoughts?
thanks

How do I alias an IP address for internal access of an FTP site?

We have an ftp site that can be accessed from the public Internet by typing ftp://ftp.mycompany.com but to access the site from within the domain we have to type the ip address of the server ftp://177.123.123.23. How do I make it so internal users can type the ftp.mycompany.com to get to the site instead of the IP address?

new ftp user in Mac 0S X?

Used Yahoo web hosting instructions to set up and, sure enough, got a new “folder” with the basic files (index.html and a tmp folder) on my Mac Desktop. In other words it seems to have “connected”… however, when any file of any type or size is dragged and dropped there because the folder “cannot be modified”. Get Info says its read only. Feels like a stupid question, but what am I missing?? Thx !!!!

My explorer will not go to login on any ftp site. It always logs on anonamously.?

If I type in ftp.(site).com it will find the site but show it as if I am anonamous. This does not allow for the right click menu with the login in as… option. I can not find a place to change this setting. It worked at one time. I have also downloaded Explorer 7.0 and this did not make any difference. Does anyone know what I can set to change this. I really need to get onto several websites. Using another ftp software is not an answer since I need the login capability of Internet Explorer.
