Domains in Windows 2003 Server?

We will be transitioning the existing network over from our “sister” company to a brand new network from scratch. If our primary name will be “company,” what are company.com, ftp.company, mail.company, and database.company? Would that make “company” the domain/root forest, and all the others sub domains, or trees or something? What’s the deal on proper set up?

Please Help!! Thanks :)

Is a Linux server any better than a windows server?

I was wondering what the difference was? My website has been on a windows based server and is being transferred to a Linux. Will I have any problems with my current FTP. My computer uses Windows.

Possible with Windows XP Pro, or do I need Server addition?

Right now i leave my home computer which runs xp pro on all the time because i frequently access it with a remote desktop program using my laptop (also xp pro). I also have a website hosted by yahoo. which is really just for personal use. It’s convenient to have as a mediator between home and away. But it’s annoying to log in, upload to my website using an FTP program, then accessing my website from say hawaii, download my content. I’m wondering if i can make a page with just a bunch of links on it that would point to my files on my home computer, which would then send them to me.
Also, I’m trying to do this for free. I can’t afford xp server or server ’03. I can’t afford much at all. I’m pretty sure the remote desktop program I use, has a feature like this but you have to pay a pretty penny for the upgrade. And I would need to pay twice becuase it’s per pc. I already inquired about that part. Any suggestions would be great.
Lets brainstorm, well can only answer once

What is a good graphic ftp program for Windows?

I tried WS_FTP Home, but now my trial is up and I don’t want to pay for it.

Anyone know a good free one?

I’m updating a webpage, so nothing large or scary going on.
